Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about sending files with SecureTransfer.

Can I send a whole folder?

Send your files directly, or zip them into a single archive first. A ZIP keeps your subfolders intact: your recipient unzips it and finds all the files and the original folder structure.

Is there a size limit?

Each transfer can hold up to 5 GB in total. Add as many files as you like, as long as their combined size stays within that limit.

How long are my files kept?

You decide at upload: links stay active for 1, 3 or 7 days. Once the time is up, the encrypted files are wiped from the server. Permanently.

What happens if I lose the link?

Your secret key lives inside the link, in the part after the # sign, and it never reaches our server. So it's important to keep this link safe and send it through a channel you trust: it's the one and only key to your files.

Does my recipient need an account?

No account needed, for you or your recipient. Anyone with the link can download the files, as long as the transfer is still active.

Is it truly end-to-end encrypted? What does the server see?

Your files are encrypted right in your browser with AES-256 before they ever leave your device. The server only ever holds scrambled data, and the decryption key stays in your link. Your files remain readable by you and your recipient alone.

Can I delete a transfer before it expires?

For now, there's no feature to delete a transfer before it expires. The simplest way to control how long a transfer lives is to choose its expiry carefully at upload. Your files are then permanently removed as soon as that time is up.

Was this site built with the help of AI agents?

Yes. SecureTransfer was developed by developers with the help of selected AI agents. The technical architecture, the design choices, the security model and every release were reviewed by a developer before going live. Transparency is part of the project's spirit.

Is it free?

Yes, SecureTransfer is completely free. If you'd like to support the project and help with server costs, a Ko-fi link is available: always optional, always appreciated.

Which browsers and devices work?

Every modern browser works: Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Edge, on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. It also works on iOS devices (iPhone and iPad), where files download one at a time for a smooth experience.
